1000+ km and some insights...

|
Wow, this week was really, really packed! And the insights I gained... :-)
As you can see from the post title, I seem to have covered quite some ground this past week - all by train, and as it happened to be, half of my starting trains were already late by about 15-20 minutes (and let's just forget some of the intermittent trains on my second trip this week, shall we?). Coincidentally, those were always the trains at the beginning of my trip... makes me wonder what exactly it is that keeps express trains away from Salzburg. Maybe an invisible force, antagonal to a gravitational pull, so to speak an antigravitational push? Whatever, I'm no physics person, as you might have guessed already. :-)

long time, no see, huh?
To be honest, I thought that I'd have more time on my hands once my move was over. And the unpacking of boxes. And the purchasing and assembling of new and old furniture. And the wonderful Easter vacation spent here with my parents. And that relaxed first week much-too-packed fortnight since Easter.

Freshen up!

Since it's such a fine day today and the sun is teasing me with mid-20 temps, I had to make good use of this day. Also, I'll need to gather up some energy for an upcoming move. So... I took a local train across the border and went to the home depot. Ain't that brilliant or what

Well honestly, I picked up a lot of things for the new flat, most notably wall paint, and quite a few buckets of that. And deciding took what appeared to be forever. But dear reader, it's not like I had a hard time picking a decent white color - that was by far the quickest decision. No, it was the rest of the color concept (yes, that's what I call it!). In the end, paints with intriguing names such as "real vanilla", "choco moko" and "twilight" made it into my shopping cart and are now enjoying the company of a few other items. Looks like they get along rather well, if one were to judge from the picture. BTW, I transported that stuff home via public transportation and per pedes. As a result, my shoulders are sore and I might need some ice. The latter for my feet, of course. ;-) Let's see if I'll start splattering paint onto the walls tomorrow already or if I'll succumb to the calls of the sun. Our maybe I'll just do both?

Wohl bekomm’s! ;-)

3 weeks... for real?

|
Seems like it's been more than 3 weeks already, since I came here. Amazing, how fast time went by. Even more amazing - I'm doing very well and everything is running as smooth as could be. Well, perhaps with the exception of some minor legal issues. *sigh*
Anyway, the next weekend is about to start - like right now - and I'll be off to enjoy the sunny afternoon! Probably with a nice book and some tasty coffee, before I'll put my long-neglected salsa skills to a test - together with two of my new colleagues, I'll visit a salsa party this evening. ¡Echaré una cana al aire! ;-)

Idioms for foreigners...

The fortress and the Alps - my two favourite sights around there

Remind me again, when did I move here? Could it have been, like, roughly two weeks ago? And given the fact that this is a country where my mother tongue is spoken (at least theoretically) one MIGHT expect that my own way of speaking shouldn't have changed too much, right? Unless we're talking of social psychologist phenomena such as verbal mimicry. But hey, we're not talking about that anyways. Not here.

New year, new home

|

Yeahaw - after almost 6 hours of driving I made it safely to Salzburg yesterday in the evening and even managed to find my new home (credits to the GPS system or I might still be circling the inner city in search of the right turn). The drive went smooth, even though it was a really long one compared to my usual very limited driving.
However, I have once again learned a couple of lessons for the future. And I wouldn't dare NOT sharing them with you all! ;-) So here we go:

Wrap-a-dub-dub

|
That's the current beat of my life - it involves no instruments, but instead a number of cardboard items, folded up neatly and stacked into a corner of my humble living quarters.

Sometimes, life is just so *ugh*

That being said, today will be a great one! Reason being... hm, I seem to have forgotten that... :-P

Postfeminist greening project

So I decided this morning that it would be now or never to get the balcony back to its rocking summer state. An accomplice was easily found, since he lives in my flatshare. ;-) And an intermittently scary bike ride later, we shopped around for flowers, herbs and soil. And some more herbs. Gotta have some rosemary potatoes soon. ;-) And even though we had planned ahead and taken a whole lot of bags and transportation options (sealed backpack? Check. Clip-on bike bag? Check. Rectangular bucket to fix to the carrier on my bike? Check.), there was just one plant that wouldn't fit any more. So what to do? But as a popular German proverb fittingly puts it: Nothtings too difficult for an engineer. And if there's no bottle to take up that spot at the moment, why not have the little one have the joy of getting some fresh air? ;-)

Also auf! ;-)

It's the library again

Now tell me, is that a good place to write, ponder about twisted thoughts, abstract concepts and crooked sentences and then stare out of the window for a daydreaming eternity write some more? Actually, there's even a preschool to look down upon if I crane my neck. Oh darn it, they are starting a bbq right now. Note to myself: no more neck-craning. No good.

Alles locker?

|

And so-and-so and over-head...

|
Ah, welcome my friends to another round of "I don't know how to put it, but I'll just simply assume that my translation will work". Oh yeah.

Treasure hunt

|
This was my 2nd geocaching tour, but the first successful one. Yay!
And now off to see Avatar in Weimar's 3D-Cinema! :-D

Now, what was my work about?

|

Oh yeah, memory. And faces, at that.
Wouldn't you agree with me when I say that expertise is not necessarily highly correlated with skill, but with knowledge instead? Case in point?

...and forgive us our trespasses...

...as we keep on breaking days of repentance. Every. Freaking.Year. Or so it seems...

Shattered

|

Ufff... Ob mir das was sagen soll? *kopfkratz*

Leute gibt's...
