Sometimes, life is just so *ugh*

That being said, today will be a great one! Reason being... hm, I seem to have forgotten that... :-P

Anyways, the sad start into this week (but there were much more mournful news) and overall my last 24 hours have been, well, how to put it - "strenuous"? Mh, not quite fitting, but "dramatic" wouldn't aptly describe it as well. And "exhausting" may superficially seem right, but given the fact that I'm blogging at this time of the night, I have an inkling that it might not be 100% appropriate. Oh well, so let's leave the linguistic stuff aside since it was only meant to emphasize the overwhelming time I had. Coming to think of it, "overwhelming" might be the word. *btw, can you hear me thinking here?*
So, there I am... PhD-student and about to finish it all. And by all, I mean ALL. Currently, there are 3 major projects to tend to besides the hallowed thesis. That is, teaching plus grant proposal plus manuscript submission. And all better be finished two days ago. ARGH! So there's the Hanna, ruining her night's sleep with shuffling data from left to right (screenwise, that is) and trying to bring sense into all the statistics (teaching), advertising speech (grant proposal) and complicated results (manuscript). Oh, and did I mention that I am planning (and gently forced by deadlines) to submit my thesis by the end of next week? No? Then let's forget about it right away, since that's my modus operandi anyways. Well, kind of. Almost. I think.
Still, miracles do happen and today was such a miraculous day - after a not-so-wonderful night (due to a lack of sleep). The Hanna got up, freshened and then went to tackle the day's adventures. And there were a number of things I managed to check of my imaginary list (well, and from the paper list next to me, cuz I tend to forget things currently if I don't keep written track of them. Stress, I think.). And alas, I even managed to work on my thesis. YAY! Maybe my productivity was due to the fact that I had gone into the library exile? ;-)
Anyways, exile be as it may be, I still had to arrange stuff for tomorrow's seminar, prepare some statistics and graphs, transfer the data to a laptop and the like. So off to the institute, it is. Snatched a laptop, got the hardware - all set to go! Almost. Then I settled down to transfer the EEG results, statistics and some plots to the laptop (first bummer: no compatible viewing program, so it's just gonna be bitmaps for us all. No interacting with data.). But well, we can cope... Next thing on the agenda: behavioral data. Which, in fact, were still in need of analysis. No problem, THAT is an easy one and should take only 20-30 min. NOT. Turns out, something went wrong and that's how the demise started. The data is not lost though. It's just, that, well, it's kind of hidden in other files that are enormously large. And hard to handle. Just urgh. And the worst thing about it? I am too much perfectionist to not try to fix it. Right then. Well, the good thing is I got about a third of it done... until a fellow PhD-student saved my sanity by calling me on it and asking why I would do that myself and at that at this very moment. Right on. So it will get done soon, but not today. And the Hanna was starting to relax again. And in that mood, the rest of the prep should be a piece of cake.
AND THEN I discovered that the old SPSS-version on the laptop does not work anymore and that statistics will be presented in PDF format tomorrow. Now THAT is some innovative hands-on teaching, isn't it? Gotta love the blessings of technology... and our dependency on it.

Good night.

Hanna
