Yeah, I know...

It's been a few days since my last post here, but trust me when I say that I'll be back online soon. Lots of things are happening, but it's mostly good things. ;-)

So stay tuned for more news - maybe this photograph will shorten the wait. Got a new phone and am slowly disvovering the amazing world of apps, in this case Vignette, a photo app to simulate the look of toy cameras, lomo and old film. Lots of fun!

A wedding worth remembering, pt. 2

Before I drag it out too long, I'll just present the main cornerstones of the day.
8:00 a.m. - everyone is hurly-burly and busy, busy, busy - especially in the main Steel mansion, since the master bathroom (spell: only one for everyone on the middle floor) was to be blocked for ongoing traffic starting at 8 a.m. due to hair dressing appointments

10:15 a.m. - the bride is almost ready for presentation. Almost.
10:15 - die Braut is fast fertig. Fast.

The new one...

YAY! It's here - my new camera bag! That was a nice event in yesterday's succession of library, library, library (throw in an occasional break for lunch, coffee or even ice-cream). So here it is:

Btw, I hope you weren't too disappointed to find out that this was all about an inanimate object... :-P

And off I go to put the finishing touches on my dissertation. Tomorrow's the day!

...and that's the better end of it, cuz this home stretch shouldn't continue much longer. Or it'll be a bitter end instead. ;-)

... bald ist es geschafft - zum Glück! Noch ein paar Tage Endspurt und dann ist erstmal eine Verschnaufpause erreicht. Schön.... ;-)

Me loves the mailman...

Finally, finally, finally....
Waiting is worth it, that's for sure. Once more I was assured of that notion last saturday, when I came home and found a letter from Berlin - and enclosed was an awesome, funny and unique invitation to a greeeaaaat event!!! Happy... for them. And can't wait to get the parties (yes, plural!) started... the two of them know better (about their relatives) than to do their nuptials without having a proper "Polterabend" (go to Leo.org to find out more about this custom). Oh, the fun we'll have... ;-)

Endlich hat die Warterei ein Ende... der Postbote hatte ein Einsehen und brachte mir am Wochenende eine wunderschöne, lustige und originelle Einladung zur anstehenden Hochzeit zweier Neu-Hauptstädter. ;-) Da zeigt sich wieder mal - was lange währt, wird endlich gut (ob das nun die Einladung oder Hochzeit meint, bleibt eurer Interpretation überlassen). Wie auch immer, ich freue mich schon auf die Feiereien (jaja, wir reden hier im Plural!), denn bevor gehochzeitet wird, wird auch ordentlich gepoltert. Da kennen die beiden ihre Verwandschaft wohl besser und haben es vorgezogen, Überraschungen polternder Art von der Hochzeit fernzuhalten. Das wird ein Spaß... ;-)

So there, another week, another photography experiment. This time involving:
- slide film

- flowers and other visually "interesting" objects
- and the "wrong" processing solution.
And, tadaaaa, we have cross-processed slide pictures. Some of which turned out strikingly intense... ;-)

Ok, off now to some watersplashing and gulping... some might call that swimming, too. ;-)

A sparkling start into 2010!!!

Hope you all had a great start into the new year, enjoyed the odd glass of sparkling stuff and took some realistic resolutions with you. Or well, maybe not (the last point). I think that whenever you really want to change something in your life, it's odd to wait for a new year just to get the change started. Why then?
Anyways, I celebrated with some friends and it was a really nice and relaxed night. An hour before midnight, the sleet and rain turned into snow again and it was a white start into the new year! And a splendid one at that! I played a bit with the camera, so here are some of the impressions from midnight and the time afterwards. Enjoy! Btw, anyone guessing the content of the first picture will win an honorary blogpost dedicated to him. Form and content of that will be announced later. ;-)

Frohes Neues allerseits! Ich hoffe, ihr seid alle gut ins Neue Jahr gekommen, habt das eine oder andere Gläschen darauf erhoben und vielleicht einige gute Vorsätze gefasst. Wobei... den letzten Teil vergesst einfach mal. Gute Vorsätze sind ja nicht unbedingt wirkungsvoller, nur weil sie zu Silvester verabschiedet wurden! Im Gegenteil... die Erfolgsrate ist an allen 364 anderen Tagen im Jahr wohl um einiges höher. Daher: viel Erfolg im nächsten Jahr und am besten lassen sich gute Vorsätze umsetzen, wenn man sie sofort angeht. ;-)
Soviel zur vorfristigen Sonntagspredigt von mir. Euch allen noch ein schönes Wochenende und viel Spaß mit den Impressionen, die ich beim Spielen mit Wunderkerzen, Kamera und Stativ einfangen konnte. Wer entdeckt, was im ersten Bild enthalten ist, wird beim nächsten Blogpost geehrt... wie, verrate ich dann! ;-)

Richtungsweisend...

... waren definitiv nicht die zwei Einsatzfahrzeuge, die mir vor 15 min begegneten. Beide waren mit Blaulicht und Martinshorn auf der B7 unterwegs, jedoch nicht in ein und dieselbe Richtung, sondern begegneten sich kurzzeitig an einer Kreuzung, um anschließend ihre Wege in entgegengesetzten Richtungen fortzusetzen. Hoffentlich wollten dieser Notarztwagen und Krankenwagen nicht zusammen zu einem Einsatz. Naja, andererseits wäre es auch positiv, wenn es nicht zwei, sondern nur einen Notfall gab. Soviel Senf zum heutigen Tag...

Hodgepodge

Today is kind of like something for everyone. Kind of like a goulash... not the de-luxe kind, cuz that only get's the best kind of meat. I'm talking all kinds of meat. ;-)
But first off, welcome to the gals coming over from The Women's Colony - great having you here, maybe you want to bring a warm coat (it's frosty here right now) and share a cup of mulled wine. Never mind that the "real" season for that is still a few weeks away, but it's at least a remedy against the cold.

The German's catharsis

Welcome to a very atypical, yet quite stereotypical German festivity - the Oktoberfest. Imagine an annual beer craze, hordes of men and women in more or less whimsical traditional costumes, food and drinks in abundance and a huge fairground complete with rollercoasters, carusels and party tents in which music and the smell of spirits form an atmosphere bearable only in a not-so-sober state. Well then, I'm off to get a Mass of a cool blonde one. Prosit!

Fall in close-up mode

Despite the very unfortunate ending, last weekend really was true bliss - especially for the photographer in me, who went on a hunt for some nice close-ups. So here's a small selection of the things I (sometimes literally) stumbled upon.
Abgesehen von dem unglücklichen Oehrenstocker Kellersturz war das letzte Wochenende wirklich wunderbar - insbesondere, weil ich mal wieder Gelegenheit hatte, mit der Kamera auf Bilderjagd zu gehen. Hier eine Auswahl der Nahaufnahmen, bei denen ich über einige Objekte fast sprichwörtlich stolperte.

On another note, my mum's still in hospital. Her injuries turned out to be worse than we would've hoped for but she seems to be in good hands. So we're in there with her and are wishing her a speedy recovery.
Der Springerin geht es übrigens den Umständen entsprechend etwas besser. Sie ist noch immer im Krankenhaus, und obwohl ihre Verletzungen schlimmer sind als wir hofften, ist sie anscheinend in guten Händen. Also bitte weiter Daumen drücken und für die kommende OP und Heilung alles Gute wünschen!

Lady in lavender

A common sight these days - a bumblebee in the lavender on my balcony. Usually they just hum around, stop by for a short sip of nectar and off they go. This time, however, at least two of them used the plant to take a good rest... Well, I don't mind... ;-)

Wanna get fresh? How 'bout a new hairdo?

You never, ever know what you might find on one of the myriads of bulletin boards around here. So why not post a note looking for models for new down-under hairdos??? Gosh, I was dumbstruck. It was kind of an odd piece between all those room-for-rent or bike-for-sell announcements. Or maybe I'm just not used to bulletin boards anymore.
Note to myself: linger around student places and deeply research contents of bulletin boards. ;-)


Es ist immer wieder AUFSCHLUSSREICH, mit offenen Augen durch's Leben und insbesondere durch die Uni zu gehen. Ohne dieses wäre mir wohl oben abgebildete Anzeige nicht aufgefallen. Naja, der Sommer kommt, die Haare gehen? In meiner Einfalt bezog ich das bisher vorrangig auf Haupthaar, aber man kann sich ja mal irren. Allerdings war ich auch reichlich überrascht, diese Anzeige zwischen den Nachmieter-Gesuchen und Fahrrad-Verkäufen zu entdecken. Vielleicht bin ich aber auch Schwarzes-Brett-entwöhnt.
Merke: öfters in studentischen Habitaten verkehren und den Inhalt Schwarzer Bretter tiefergehend studieren. ;-)

Half a year already???

My gosh, it's already half a year ago since I was at the symposium of the Melton Foundation in New Orleans. But only today did I discover the picasa webalbum of DU, complete with 4 folders of symp pix in a pretty good quality. Head on over to see for yourself! Anyways, I need not mention that the Symp was a filled to the brim with fun, fun and fun. The best way to demonstrate the fun that was had by all is by showing you a couple of pictures (note: not taken by me, but by the Dillard photographer). Btw, did I mention fun yet???? So here's a picture of the "senior" gals and some guys, obviously all in a very good mood. Go figure! ;-)

And that's the whole bunch, this time exhibiting a teeny bit more etiquette. After all, we're serious professionals... I think. :-)
