It's a lensbaby! ;-)

If you know me, you know that I can't do without playing. Be it constantly joking, fiddling around with complicated contraptions and trying to find out how they work, playing classic games or, well, trying out new gadgets.

Budget constraints have it that I won't get one too often, but just a few days ago I did. And ordered a Lensbaby. For the uninitiated: that's a creative lens that allows you to shift the focus spot anywhere you want by literally twisting the lens itself. It's not a super-duper-sharp and optically perfect lens - far from that! It's made in a way that, depending on your aperture, there's a more or less limited sharp and focused point in it - called the "sweet spot". Ahh, ain't that sweet? ;-) Anyways, the rest of the picture gets gradually blurred until it might look like the frame exploding and everything being sucked out of the picture. Kind of. So that's what I just got and I have been playing around with it and tried to find out whether or not I can work it. After all, focusing AND moving the sweet spot is all done manually and if you're too slow to release the shutter before your muscles give in, the shot is gone and comes out all blurry. And that's too bad if you still use a film camera the way I do. But to be honest? I love shooting on film - it's got something definite and real to it. I love being able to hold a print in my hand, or to wait for two days before finally picking them up from developing. Granted, digital photography is the medium of the future, but for the time being I'm content with what I got and the creative freedom I have with these things. So here are some impressions from my first training session... be kind and don't leave harsh comments. I'm still practicin', ya know?

So, die Spielerin ist wieder durchgekommen. Dieses Mal nicht mit Spielen, Frotzeleien, hochkomplizierten technischen Gerätschaften oder Gedankenspielereien, sondern mit einem lustigen Fotoobjektiv. Das gute Stück heißt Lensbaby, wurde mir neulich in einer Verpackung zugestellt, die offensichtlich auf weibliche Kunden zugeschnitten war (hallo? Oder würde sich ein Mann mit "ach wie süß" outen, wenn nach Herausnehmen des Objektivs der Boden der Schachtel mit einem "Mama? - Glückwunsch, es ist ein Lensbaby!" aufwartet?) und flugs zur Nutzung bereit gemacht. Nachdem Frau Knipse auch rausgefunden hatte, wie das Andockmanöver an der Kamera funktioniert und warum keine Blendenwerte angezeigt werden (Dummerchen, das ist ein analoges Objektiv und die Blende regele ich selbst mit austauschbaren Blendenringen! Tssss), wurde fröhlich drauflos geknipst. Hier also die Resultate der ersten Schulstunde mit der Lektion: wie verbiege ich dieses Ding so, dass das, was ich scharf haben will, auch solange scharf bleibt, bis ich den Auslöser gedrückt habe? Schwierig, schwierig...
