New year, new home

Yeahaw - after almost 6 hours of driving I made it safely to Salzburg yesterday in the evening and even managed to find my new home (credits to the GPS system or I might still be circling the inner city in search of the right turn). The drive went smooth, even though it was a really long one compared to my usual very limited driving.
However, I have once again learned a couple of lessons for the future. And I wouldn't dare NOT sharing them with you all! ;-) So here we go:

1. ADAC club mobiles (automobile club) are great - for just 70 EUR (incl. unlimited km) I got a Toyota Corolla Verso, which was large enough to accomodate almost all of my stuff for the next three months (minus my sled *sniff*).
2. 6-gear transmission!
3. I have discovered a profound dislike for tailgating, honking trucks in the 10-km-tunnel that traverses the height of the Thuringian forest. Especially when that tunnel is equipped with a number of speed traps AND only at the beginning of a 600-km-drive on my own.
4. You can intensify the zest of the drive by continuing onto Austrian highways WITHOUT the obligatory 'Pickerl' (=vignette). And don't even assume that panicky exits will do anything but lead you to YET ANOTHER highway, this one even leading you into the wrong corner of the city. What it all boils down to? 20 min of inner-city driving that I could've done without. Fantastic after all of this driving. :-)
5. The sweets on the passenger seat made it safely to here! A dream come true!
6. I can see the Alps from my bed now. That is, unless I'm blinded by the sun shining into my bedroom, like it did this morning.
7. Dragging moving crates into the 7th floor (for you Anglophiles, that's the 8th floor in the US!) is much more enjoyable with a lift. Add to that a parking lot almost in front of the door and you have a happy Hanna.
8. I possess masses of tea - something I only realized yesterday when unearthing and (trying to) pack(ing) all that stuff away. Well, at least I have enough for all those guests and visitors passing by - HINT, HINT! :-P
9. They also have the DM chain here... I think there are some afficionados for whom this may be critical in travel decision making...

Well then, I'll be off to enjoy the mountain view! ;-)

Geschafft - nach fast 6 Stunden Fahrt bin ich gestern in Salzburg angekommen und habe meine neue Bleibe in Beschlag genommen. Die Fahrt an sich verlief echt gut, was wohl nicht zuletzt der Anwesenheit eines Navis gedankt werden muss.
Wie immer, habe ich auch jetzt wieder etliche Lektionen für's Leben gelernt. Natürlich lasse ich euch gern daran teilhaben. :-p
1. ADAC Clubmobile sind toll - ich hab für ca 70 Euro (inkl. unbegrenzter Kilometer-Anzahl) einen Corolla Verso bekommen, in den fast alle Sachen für die nächsten Monate (minus Schlitten *seufz*) rein passten.
2. 6-Gang-Getriebe! 8-)
3. Drängelnde, hupende Brummis im radarüberwachten 10-km-Rennsteigtunnel sind ein schlechter Einstieg auf 600 km Alleinfahrt.
4. Den Reiz der Fahrt kann man übrigens noch intensivieren, wenn man ohne Pickerl (=Vignette) von deutscher auf österreichische Autobahnen weiterfährt. Panisches Abfahren bringt einen dann auch nur wieder auf ANDERE Autobahnen und in die falsche Ecke der Stadt, sodass man schlußendlich 20 min Fahrt durch die Stadtmitte gewinnt. Traumhaft nach der ganzen Fahrerei!
5. Meine Süßigkeiten sind unangetastet hier angekommen. Ein Traum!
6. Von meinem Bett kann ich die Alpen sehen. Wenn mich nicht wie heute die Sonne blendet. Naja, damit werde ich schon umgehen können.
7. Kistenschleppen in den 7. Stock macht mit Lifts doppelt soviel Spaß. Und ein Parkplatz direkt vor dem Haus tut ein übriges dazu.
8. Ich habe massenweise Tee - das ist mir aber erst beim Auspacken und Verstauen(-wollen) richtig aufgefallen. Genug also für alle Gäste, die mal vorbeikommen - Achtung, Zaunspfahl! ;-)
9. Hier gibt es auch DM - für manche Afficionados evtl ein wichtiger Anreiz für einen Besuch...
