Winter's here... kinda.

If looking at the calendar wouldn't give me hints in that direction, the constant decline in temperatures over the last days certainly made sure that I got the notion of "winter approaching". Not that I wouldn't notice the weather. And not that I wouldn't have already enjoyed a number of evenings spiced up by mulled wine...

Anyways, I went back home yesterday for a long weekend. The day was spent with playing driver and running errands for the lady who had fallen from grace the kitchen edge. ;-) In the evening, I attended a children's christmas party at the local ice skating rink and watched the show that the organizers had put up. I didn't expect it to be so entertaining, funny and heart-warming, but it was a real pleasure watching this 15-min christmas-fairytale-meets-ice-skating show. The cutest scene was one where supposedly a flock of little lambs performs their dance, the lambs all being impersonated by the youngest skaters in the club. One of them kept falling over and over towards the end of their part, but she kept getting up, only to fall again after three more strides. Due to her plush and thick make-shift lamb coat she didn't hurt herself though. And the fun of watching was almost guilt free. ;-)

Anyways, after getting a bit cold while standing around the ice rink (note to myself: bring time AND skates next time!) we returned back home and had a nice evening, spent with friends and loooooong talks into the night. And some wine... you know me. ;-)
Today was all about preparing tomorrow's festive lunch and getting all the bits and pieces ready. I spent a good deal of time doing some shopping. I never knew that getting my cross country ski fixed and prepared for winter would be a matter of a few days, whereas finding the instant broth in the biggest supermarket proved to be an almost unsurmountable task to me. I bet you would find track marks as proof of my running circle upon circle through the various aisles of that darn supermarket, just to discover the stuff after at a spot that I must've passed a dozen times. Why that? I never bothered to scan the area below my knee level. And you know where they would definitely put the broth? Yeah, right there. Ah well, all was well after a while and I was happy enough to leave the store with my sanity still onboard.
So then, let's see how tomorrow will turn out. I tend to take a few snaps, and I'm curious whether or not I'll be able to capture the spirit (if not the smells, taste and laughter that is inevitable at that event).

P.S.: Reason for the title? We had our first snow for this winter today! Yay! ;-)
