Woooohhhh

So there goes the intent of daily or at least several times per week regular blogging.
For good reasons, I guess.
First of all, lots to do. Yeah, that's an old one... an evergreen, to put it right. But I had a great Easter break - first a week full of... nothing. Vacation = bliss. Despite the fact that I was indeed quite active and not idle at all, I was able to reload my batteries through a combination of social outings, fun events and physical activity (plastering garage walls, anyone?), all rounded off with some home-grown delicacies brought to you by the mastress of the kitchen herself: Mama. ;-) Oh, the delights - venison roast, potato dumplings, red cabbage, homemade cake to die for, delicious salads and a vast (!) assortment of cheese, cold cuts and marmelade. Oh yeah, AND alcoholics, once lent was over (that would be Easter Sunday). And boy, it was over right that Easter sunday morning - the instant we came home after the Easter vigil (mind you, starting at 5 a.m. and lasting till about 7-7:30 a.m., rounded off with coffee, coffee cake and Easter eggs in the parish hall), my dad asked inquired who would care for a spirit in honour of Easter Sunday. Turns out, everyone would. ;-) And there we were, sipping the first drink at 9 a.m. in the morning. A very spiritual day, I'm telling you. ;-) I would like to post pix, but unfortunately, my film is still somewhere out in the open (photo lab mixed films up, so that I ended up with a half-full role of elephants, plants and other random shots instead of the Easter photos I actually took).
The new work week (and the semester) started Tuesday, which made for a nice 4-day week to get back in the flow. And flow I do. Despite the occasional creative downtime (can't work for 8 hours straight, now can you?), I managed to tick off a couple of things from this week's to-do-list. Next week will be busy again, but all for good reasons: come friday, I'll lug my stuff to the city center in the wee hours of the morning, only to meet a couple of colleagues before we're all going to be picked up by a driver and escorted (flown?) to Frankfurt. Next stop? Montréal. Yeah.... Does that sound great? Sure does to me. I'll be attending a conference there, present a poster on the very first day and hope to soak up as much new insights about my topic as possible, while also taking several peeks at the city itself. What's left to do now is packing my stuff, getting other things done and brushing up mes capacités en français. Oh là là, j'espère que ça va bien. ;-)
Anyways, I'll leave Canada just 6 days later, will arrive in Frankfurt sometime Friday morning, rush to J-town, change stuff (and maybe have a much-needed date with the shower), before heading off to a classroom-camp-night IN town. Why that? "group cohesion" is the motto! Come saturday, I'll compete again at the Thuringian Lifeguard Competition, again with the mixed team. Since the team itself is a newly-created group, and since camp-outs are just so much fun, we'll spend the night before together. I'm just curious how my travel-weary back will adapt to sleeping on the floor... but just to be on the safe (and comfortable) side, I already purchased an airbed for me. I dearly love my Therm-a-rest camping mat, but it's clearly made for soft natural ground, not man-made concrete classroom floors that are covered up by vinyl floor lining. So the air mattress is it. Now I just  need to convince one of the other team mates to pump it up for me... We shall see. ;-)
Ok, gotta turn off now and need to get some things done. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hanna
